Brake Actuators. Braking without compromises.

Reliable and long-lasting, in every size and performance class: Knorr-Bremse Spring Brakes and Brake Chambers bring commercial vehicles to a standstill, safely.

Take a break!

With Knorr-Bremse Brake Actuators, you can bring any truck, bus or trailer to a halt – quickly, safely and reliably, anywhere in the world, and at any temperature. Brake Actuators play a key role in the commercial vehicle braking system, by converting pneumatic energy into mechanical energy. This forces the brake pads against the brake disc surfaces, decelerating or stopping the vehicle. The driver controls the required braking force via the pedal, and, depending on the situation, can brake gently or apply the full braking force.

The entire spectrum of Brake Actuators

As a leading manufacturer of Brake Actuators, Knorr-Bremse offers innovative solutions with actuators in every size and performance levels, as well as the entire spectrum of different actuator designs: Brake Chambers for the service brake, Spring Brakes for the parking brake and emergency braking systems. Brake Actuators for Drum Brakes and for Air Disc Brakes. For every major OE manufacturer. For trucks, buses and trailers.

Safety information. This animation provides the safety information on spring brake actuator NG4 EVO PRO from Knorr-Bremse.

Brake Actuators as shape shifters

Brake actuators and diaphragm actuators play a key role in the braking system. Their purpose is to convert the pressure exerted on the brake pedal into braking force. Wheel brake actuators, for instance in drum brakes, transfer the pressure built up by the master brake actuator in the braking system to the brake shoes. In disc brakes, diaphragm actuators ensure the pressure generated acts on the brake caliper, thereby pressing the brake pads against the brake discs.

Spring Brake actuators – firm and steady

Spring Brakes are used for parking brakes, as well as in auxiliary and emergency braking systems. If there is no compressed air in the braking system, the spring is expanded, and the brake is applied. This keeps a truck or bus firmly in place, even on an incline. The parking brake must be released to start the vehicle. To do so, compressed air is used to compress the spring – and the brake releases.

Knorr-Bremse Spring Brakes – reliable and long-lasting

Brakes have to withstand a lot – mile after mile. Spring Brakes from Knorr-Bremse are particularly reliable and long-lasting. Crimped Brake Actuators, for instance, significantly maximize the product service life. Crimping technology makes the Brake Actuators more robust, thereby improving the safety of the braking system. As the world's first provider of crimped Spring Brakes, Knorr-Bremse remains a leader in this sector. Of course, we aren’t resting on our laurels, but instead continue to develop our field-tested products. For safe braking. For safe streets.

Fewer parts – faster repairs

From modular to crimped Brake Actuators – Knorr-Bremse offers innovative solutions in a variety of different sizes and performance classes. Our proven, field-tested designs are continuously developed, and the number of single parts is reduced significantly. This means lower costs to purchase service parts and maintenance for drivers and fleet owners, as well as faster repairs. By taking this approach, we have gotten that much closer to our goal: Reducing downtimes and getting vehicles back on the road again quickly. Save time. Save money.

New! Knorr-Bremse NG4 EVO PRO Spring Brake Actuators

NG4 EVO PRO is a new innovative and crimped design, as already introduced for Brake Chambers (OBC) and other Spring Brake Actuator families e.g. , NG3 EVO, NG5 and NG4 EVO. It firmly and effectively seals the internal components from external contaminants, such as dust, dirt, and moisture, providing the optimal protection and resulting in enhanced reliability and durability.

Benefits:

  • High force parking brake system (approx. +10% to standard product range)
  • Enhanced corrosion resistance
  • Robust and proven self-centring diaphragm
  • Featuring internal breathing valve
  • Screwed in vent plug for more security and better ergonomics
